By in Home Improvement with 0 Comments

We have a little bit of time left before we get back into the school routine. Now is the time to finish out summer break strong! Take advantage of the time remaining by doing some fun home projects together. Including your kiddos in these activities is not only great bonding time, but it is also a way to teach them new skills and give them a confidence boost. They will be so happy when they show off their handy work!

Build a birdhouse or birdfeeder.

One great project idea to do with the kids is to build a birdhouse or a birdfeeder. You can buy kits to help if you are wanting it to go a little quicker, or if you don’t have the tools to cut the materials out yourself. There are many different types – from simple to more elaborate. You can teach the kiddos basic woodworking and painting skills. Plus, it will be a great experience for them to watch the birds enjoy the fruits of their labor!

Build a raised garden.

While most gardens are already out, it’s not too late to plant some veggies. One easier way to do this is to build a raised garden bed. Not only can you build this together, you also get to plant vegetables and/or herbs. It gets them outside, they get to build, and they get to learn how to sustain vegetation. Maybe this will even encourage them to eat their veggies!

Plant a flower garden.

Another fun activity is to plant a flower garden. If you don’t have a space to do this in the ground, consider getting several planters and pots and create a beautiful space. This will allow the kiddos to get their hands dirty and teach them the responsibility of watering, caring for the flowers, etc. They will be so excited to see the flowers when they bloom! And, you will, too…

If you prefer, you can always let your kids help you with your houseplants. They can help you plant, water, and care for them, too. They will still get the same experience!

Paint rocks and put them in your yard.

Collect various rocks to paint together. You can get as creative as you want with this! Once finished, use the rocks to decorate your walkway, your flower garden, your porch, etc. They will love seeing their “artwork” in the yard and around the home. You can either paint fun designs on them (clouds, flowers, and more!) or paint them a solid color. Then, spread them out or share them with others!

If you paint rocks large enough, you could even create a walkway with them. Paving stones work great for this!

Include your kiddo in cleaning.

There are chores for all ages. While this may not be a “fun project,” it will start to establish good work habits in your little ones. You can create a chore chart and incorporate prizes or rewards. You can find age-appropriate chore charts online to fit your needs. Depending on their age, they can help with chores such as making their bed, picking up their toys, doing the dishes, wiping down doorknobs, mopping, feeding the pets, dusting furniture, etc.
