On these cold, snowy days nothing beats curling up next to a crackling fire to warm up. Many guests want to be welcomed into your home and lead straight to the comfort of the fire. But have you ever thought about rearranging your living space in the winter to maximize coziness, so more people can gather near the fireplace? Keep reading for tips to make your fireplace the focal point of your living space.
Focus on the Fire
Try moving the furniture you already have in your living space and recenter it around the fireplace. Every room has a focal point. It might be a coffee table, a window, or a tv. Whatever the room, furniture and decor is centered around is your focal point. To make your fireplace the focal point, reposition your furniture and decor so it is facing or positioned around the fireplace. Your goal is to draw people toward the fire as they walk into the room and have the room set up so many guests can enjoy the fire at once.
Get Creative
Rearranging might not be the best move for you. How about bringing in some extra seating that may or may not be the most traditional? There are many smaller, non-traditional ways to comfortably squeeze more people around the fire. Pull up an ottoman or chaise. Slide in some stools or a bench. Plop down a large pillow or bean bags. If you have an outdoor fireplace, place a table and chairs near the fire. Find a way to make it easy for people to linger near the warmth.
Heads Up
As always, when dealing with fire it is important to be cautious. Be careful not to get your furniture TOO close to the fireplace. You don’t want to be calling the fire department anytime soon! It might even be a good idea to position everything the way you like it and then move the furniture a little ways back from the fireplace while you have the fire going.
Also, be mindful of the distance between your seats. You want to squish people in near the fire while maintaining a comfortable distance for conversation. This becomes difficult when the seats are too close together or too far apart throughout the room. Keep in mind, not EVERY seat needs to be right in front of the fire.
