While we’re still in that in-between stage of winter and spring, we can find ourselves still spending a lot of time indoors. For some, that’s no problem! Bring on the cozy blanket and a good book or movie. For others, it can cause cabin fever, causing them to long to be outdoors. And, let’s face it, your home is not just a place to live. For some, it’s also a place to work, a gym, a social gathering spot, etc.
Your home not only provides shelter, but it also plays a large role in forming who you and your family are. It helps shape your quality of life and creates memories for a lifetime. If your home needs a morale boost, check out the tips below. While simple and inexpensive, they can help transform your home (and mood) in a big way!
1. Declutter and organize.
If you follow our blog at all, you probably could have guessed that “declutter” would be included in a post about improving the quality of your home. It is worth repeating, though… When you are surrounded by so much “stuff,” you can start to feel overwhelmed and stressed. Throw away any trash and donate unnecessary or unused items. To tackle this task, start small. Pick one room (or even one area of one room) and start there. Feeling those quick victories will be encouraging and make you want to continue. Getting rid of clutter and organizing what you keep not only looks better but will also decrease your stress levels.
2. Add some color.
Adding a pop of color to your walls is a quick (and fairly inexpensive) way to rejuvenate your space. Whether you like the more toned-down neutral colors or you like something bold, try painting either an entire room or a specific wall of a room.
If painting does not appeal to you, though, there are plenty of other ways to bring some color into your home. Consider adding curtains with some color, some pillows for accent, a rug, or even pictures and artwork. All of these can add pops of color without going to extreme measures.
3. Bring in some life.
If we can’t be outside consistently quite yet, why not bring the outdoors in? Adding plants and flowers help make your home feel alive and more livable. They help in adding that much-needed color, and they are an inexpensive way to help your home feel cozier and more inviting.
4. Focus on lighting.
Lighting can make all the difference in how your surroundings look and how you feel. Natural light is the best option, so open up those curtains, shades, and even the windows if you can. If you don’t have an abundance of natural light flow, add some light with extra lamps or candles. Warm, soft lighting is ideal for creating a relaxing environment, while cool lighting is known for aiding in concentration (and productivity). Depending on what mood you are going for, choose your lighting wisely.
Once you know you are keeping the item, add it to the appropriate basket or tub. This will help reduce bulky boxes and keep your organizational system on track.
5. Add scents and music.
Two powerful senses are smell and hearing. To boost your morale, try adding some soothing scents to your home. Whether you burn a candle, turn on a wax melter, add fragrant flowers, or run a diffuser, try adding scents to your surroundings to fill your home with good smells.
You can also add music to your home to boost morale. This can range from soft, soothing music to tunes that make your family want to jump and dance and, if you have kiddos, “get those wiggles out”! 😉
Your home should be your safe place, your shelter, and the space that boosts your morale. Following these tips will hopefully help increase those feelings of comfort and peace.
