In a matter of days, life has changed as we know it. Schools have closed, plans have been cancelled, and the majority of America is being asked to stay home until further notice. There’s really no way to know what kind of an economic impact this world health crisis is going to have. But our local restaurants and businesses are already feeling it. Some have already closed their doors or had to lay off employees, and we fear this is just the beginning. Hopefully this restaurant guide will encourage people to continue to eat local and support the businesses in our community.
In a press release from Governor Parson on Saturday, March 21, 2020, the governor announced an order for every person in the State of Missouri to avoid social gatherings of more than ten people. This is inevitably going to complicate how business is done; However, it won’t be impossible. The order also said, “In accordance with the guidelines from the President and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, every person in the State of Missouri shall avoid eating or drinking at restaurants, bars, or food courts; provided, however, that the use of drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options is allowed throughout the duration of this Order.” This order will remain in effect until 12:01 A.M. Monday, April 6, 2020 unless extended.
Although local restaurants cannot conduct business as usual, they are rising to the challenge. Curly Que Barbeque is trying to help alleviate the pressure on our grocery stores by selling ground beef and uncooked chicken breasts. These items are available by order only and are dependent upon the availability and pricing of their distributors. Boone’s BBQ Barn is selling selling Cedar Creek Beef Jerky and using some of the profits to purchase gift cards from other locally owned restaurants in Bolivar. These are just a few ways restaurants are thinking outside the box and rallying together under the recent restrictions.
With new safety measures in place, many local restaurants are still open for business, and need our help to keep it that way. Please continue to support local businesses any way you can while still practicing social distancing and staying safe at home as much as possible. Together, as a community, we will get through this.
